Doris Price
doris_loves_jazz_now.jpg

Doris Price is a Jazz and Blues enthusiast. She grew up on a family farm in Sussex County, Delaware. Jazz and Blues were a part of her escape from chores and boredom. Pressing against the screen of her second story bedroom window, hoisted above the growing cornfields, she happily drifted off to sleep listening to the strains of music traveling upstream from the local dance hall. Late high school and early college years provided her with occasional opportunities to enter that local dance hall, named "Rosedale", and other jazz settings. The memory of the magic of the music and its effect on the dancers still excites her.

Having relatives in at least three so-called racial groups, she grew up determined to present herself as an All-American and do her best to truly relate to all people. Her husband and she appreciate the annual Powwows and family re-unions, which have taken, place literally in their own back yard for the past 26 years. As time passes, her techniques and her subjects may vary but her heart and her art remain partial to Jazz, Blues and Native American images.

Doris Price is listed in Who's Who in American Art, published in The Best of Acrylic Paintings pub. '96, Rockport Publishers and is in many private collections. She has works in the collections of Apex Museum, Atlanta, GA; Nassau County Museum, Roslyn Harbor, LI, NY; Eastern Washington University,Cheyney, WA; Medgar Evers College, Brooklyn, NY; York College, Queens, NY; and Delaware State University, Dover, DE.
