Amber Brown is Not a Crayon

Friday, November 12, 10:00 am

Amber Brown is having what may be the worst year of her life. She and Justin Daniels were the perfect team: they laughed at each other's jokes, sat next to each other in class, and stayed best friends when Justin's dad had to move away. But now things are different. Now Justin's house has been sold and he is going to Alabama; that's too far from New Jersey to think about.

Told in a uniquely funny and forthright style, this story of a feisty young girl who refuses to let her problems get the better of her will touch and entertain audiences everywhere. You'll laugh and cry with Amber as she learns some valuable lessons about the virtues of patience and the meaning of friendship.

Omaha Theater Company presents

If You Give a Cat a Cupcake

Thursday, January 27, 10:00 am

First there was the Mouse – then the Pig – now, here comes the Cat!
Based on the newest installment in the zany If You Give A… book series by Laura Numeroff, the Omaha Theater Company brings this madcap world premiere production with music to the stage. The Cat, who first appeared in If You Give a Pig a Party, asks his new friend Laura for some sprinkles, naturally they spill on the floor. Mopping up the mess might get him wet, so she must give him a bathing suit – and the hijinks ensue! The audience takes a “world-wind” tour following the antics of the Cat as he travels to the beach, the gym, the mountain, the museum and the lake. Ultimately, the Cat and Laura make their way back home to where the sprinkles and another cupcake await them. Audiences will love participating as the play takes the silliness and exaggeration of the book even further.

Walnut Street Theatre presents

The Glass Menagerie

Friday, March 4, 10:30 am

One of Tennessee Williams’ earliest successes, the timeless tale of the Wingfield family is brought to life in Walnut Street Theatre’s new production of The Glass Menagerie.  The strained relationships of Tom, Laura and Amanda play out in Williams’ autobiographical play, encased in themes of the power of memory and inescapable reality for which this enduring drama is best known. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director, Bernard Havard, Walnut Street Theatre presents a riveting new production of one of America’s greatest plays. The 2011 tour of The Glass Menagerie marks the Centennial of Tennessee Williams' birth.

Founded in 1809, Walnut Street Theatre is the oldest continuously operating theatre in the United States. For 200 years, this venerable institution has stood the test of time to become a staple of Philadelphia’s, and for that matter, America’s cultural community. The Walnut’s landmark theatre has been graced by some of America’s most legendary performers, including Ethel Barrymore, Marlon Brando, Sidney Poitier, Helen Hayes and Kathryn Hepburn.

Frindle

Friday, April 8, 10:00 am

Nicholas Allen has plenty of ideas. Who can forget the time he turned his third-grade classroom into a tropical island, or the times he fooled his teacher by chirping like a blackbird? But now Nick's in fifth grade, and it looks like his days as a troublemaker are over. Everyone knows that Mrs. Granger, the language arts teacher, has X-ray vision, and nobody gets away with anything in her classroom. To make matters worse, she's also a fanatic about the dictionary, which is hopelessly boring to Nick. But when Nick learns an interesting tidbit about words and where they come from, it inspires his greatest plan yet: to invent a new word. From now on, a pen is no longer a pen -- it's a Frindle. It doesn't take long for Frindle to take root, and soon the excitement spreads well beyond his school and town. His parents and Mrs. Granger would like Nick to put an end to all this nonsense. But Frindle doesn't belong to Nick anymore. All he can do now is sit back and watch what happens. This quirky, imaginative tale about creative thought and the power of words will have your young audience inventing their own words.
